Karma Ghosts Return-This Halloween
When you wear costumes to convey the messages to save lives
Team Amar Karma is celebrating Halloween in a unique way. Some participants have already revealed what they will be dressing up as, whereas others are keeping it a secret.
Amar Karma Health & Wellness Awareness Network is Canada’s first South Asian organization that was founded to raise awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation over a decade ago. The team has now expanded its horizons by adding other causes that affect the health and wellness of individuals, along with sharing the simplest ways to help others, whether it’s by donating umbilical cord blood and hair, or eradicating stigmas around disabilities and mental illness. The team consists of primarily youth activists who organize events in the community to highlight the causes they champion.
This Halloween again, the participants will be wearing costumes to honour the causes their organization represents. “I will be a fairy who will be carrying bags of ‘blood’ as a reminder to donate blood for those in need,” says Ashween, grade 7.
Likewise, many others have come up with ideas to portray the messages that are important to them through personal experiences, or shared by peers at Amar Karma.
“We all will be dressing up, and this is the way we involve youth in causes, and this might be the best way to incorporate awareness of the subjects that matter the most to us,” says Vipan Marok, director of Amar Karma.
All spots for this event have already been taken. Media are welcome to come out and learn more about the event. More information about the organization is available at www.amarkarma.org
