On December 3rd was International day of persons with disabilities, we had a virtual event on our instagram page where we had Meenu Sikand share her experience and about stigma around having a disability. A disability could be a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities.
Meenu elaborated on the daily struggles but is a very positive individual that looks more toward her accomplishments. During the pandemic there have been different groups and collaborations to support individuals with disability. One of them was where Meenu explained, a virtual group where all the ladies would get the chance to dress up and socialize with others. Since the pandemic majority of events had been cancelled and with many people going into depression, the goal of this group is to bring in some joy and excitement.
The main point of the event was to eliminate the stigma around talking and discussing disability. We hope to have made a difference to the viewers that were watching our live. If one has any questions around disability Meenu Sikand would be one of the people to reach out to. Asking questions and being curious about such topic is one of the ways to stop the stigma and normalising talk around disability.
